Juvederm Ultra & Ultra Plus Fillers in 535 Miller Ave
Mill Valley, CA 94941
Juvederm Ultra and Ultra Plus are cross-linked hyaluronic acid dermal fillers that smooth smile lines and marionette lines and add volume to the lips, cheekbones, and lower eyelid hollows. At Aesthetic Dermatology And Skin Cancer, Inc., our dermatology providers use Juvederm to create soft, natural-looking correction that typically lasts about one year.
Juvederm Ultra vs. Ultra Plus
Both products are made from hyaluronic acid, but they differ in how highly they are cross-linked. Juvederm Ultra is well suited for smoothing moderate lines and adding volume to the lips. Juvederm Ultra Plus is more highly cross-linked, making it better for volumizing deeper folds, wrinkles, and hollows. Your provider will choose the right product, or combination, for each area treated.
What Is Hyaluronic Acid?
Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring substance found in all mammals that helps hydrate the skin and add volume. It has been used medically for decades, including in arthritic joints, eye surgery, and wound repair. Juvederm is a non-animal, non-human-derived product.
Treatment Areas
Juvederm Ultra and Ultra Plus are commonly used to:
- Soften smile lines (nasolabial folds)
- Smooth marionette lines
- Add volume and definition to the lips
- Enhance the cheekbones
- Fill lower eyelid hollows
What to Expect
You may feel slight discomfort with the injections. A topical anesthetic can be applied before treatment, though it isn’t always necessary. Results are visible immediately. Within the first 24 hours afterward, avoid strenuous exercise, sun or heat exposure, and alcohol, which can cause temporary redness, swelling, or itching. An ice pack can help with any swelling.
Possible Side Effects
Most side effects are mild to moderate and last less than a week. They include temporary injection site reactions such as redness, pain, tenderness, swelling, lumps or bumps, itching, and discoloration. As with any injection, there is a small risk of infection.
Who Should Not Receive Juvederm?
Juvederm should not be used in patients with severe allergies, a history of anaphylaxis, or allergies to gram-positive bacterial proteins. Injections are not appropriate during pregnancy or breastfeeding, and safety has not been established in patients with hypertrophic scarring or keloids. Medications that prolong bleeding, such as aspirin and ibuprofen, can increase bruising at the injection site.
Complementary Treatments
Juvederm pairs well with Dysport and Letybo for expression lines, Sculptra or Radiesse for deeper volume, and Fraxel Restore for skin texture. See results in our Juvederm before and after gallery and explore all of our injectables.
