What should I bring to my first visit?

Please bring a valid photo ID, your health insurance card, and a valid credit card. After scheduling, you’ll receive electronic forms by email or text that you can complete ahead of time, and paper forms are also available in our office. Please arrive at least 15 minutes early to check in.

What are your office hours?

Our Mill Valley office is open Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday from 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM, and Tuesday from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM.

Where is your office located?

What is your cancellation policy?

We ask for at least 24 hours of notice to cancel or reschedule. Missed appointments, late cancellations, and late rescheduling may be subject to fees. You can review the details on our Office Policies page.

How often should I have a skin cancer screening?

Most adults benefit from a full-body skin exam once a year, and patients with a history of skin cancer, many moles, significant sun exposure, or a family history of melanoma may need more frequent exams. Learn more about our skin cancer screenings.

What warning signs should prompt me to have a spot checked?

Schedule an evaluation for any spot that is new, changing, bleeding, itching, or not healing, or a mole with an irregular border, multiple colors, or a diameter larger than a pencil eraser. Early evaluation is key to detecting melanoma, basal cell carcinoma, and squamous cell carcinoma.

What is Mohs surgery?

Mohs surgery is a precise technique for removing skin cancer one thin layer at a time, with each layer examined under the microscope during the procedure. It offers the highest cure rates for many basal and squamous cell cancers while preserving as much healthy skin as possible, which is especially important on the face.

Does Dr. Lowenstein perform the reconstruction after Mohs surgery?

Yes. As a Mohs surgeon with advanced training in facial anatomy and reconstruction, Dr. Lowenstein plans and performs repairs designed to protect function and achieve the most natural-looking result possible.

What medical skin conditions do you treat?

We diagnose and treat a wide range of conditions, including acne, rosacea, melasma, actinic keratosis, eczema, psoriasis, and many other skin conditions.

Who performs cosmetic injections at your practice?

All injectable treatments are performed by Dr. Lowenstein or Mira Noble, N.P., using products sourced directly from manufacturers or authorized channels. Our physician-led approach emphasizes careful patient selection, safety, and natural-looking results.

Which injectables and fillers do you offer?

We offer Dysport and Letybo, Juvederm Ultra and Ultra Plus, Restylane, Lyft, and Silk, Belotero Balance, Radiesse, Sculptra Aesthetic, and Kybella.

What laser and light treatments are available?

Our lasers and lights include the Excel V laser for vessels and redness, Fraxel Restore and fractional laser resurfacing for texture, tone, and scars, and photodynamic therapy (PDT) for sun damage and precancerous spots.

How can you help with acne scars?

We tailor acne scar treatment to your scar type, often combining options such as subcision, microneedling, fractional laser resurfacing, and fillers. Learn more on our Acne and Other Scars page.

Is a cosmetic consultation required before treatment?

Yes. Cosmetic consultations are unhurried and detail-oriented so we can understand your goals and evaluate your skin and facial anatomy. A consultation fee applies, which may be waived or credited toward treatment at our discretion.

Does insurance cover cosmetic procedures?

Cosmetic procedures and self-pay services are generally not covered by insurance and are the patient’s financial responsibility. Medically necessary care such as skin cancer screenings, Mohs surgery, and treatment of skin diseases is often covered, depending on your plan.

Do you offer skin care spa treatments and products?

Yes. Our licensed aestheticians provide skin care spa treatments such as microdermabrasion and diamond peels, glycolic acid peels, and salicylic acid peels, and we carry physician-grade skin care products from Alastin and Topix.

How do I pay my bill?

You can pay your bill securely online through our Pay Your Bill Online page or by calling our office at (415) 383-5475.
